Surf show promise in weekend double-header split.

Major improvement is the most highly eminent observation basketball fans made of their home town San
Diego Surf December 10 and 11 at Hourglass Arena. The surging Surf (2-7) split two home games with
a couple of hard nosed, fast paced, and experienced teams – making a statement that they are here to
                                               play in the SoCal Division.

Saturday night was perhaps the Surf's biggest statement of the year taking down the 3-3 Central Valley
Titans 120-106. The Surf never trailed in the entire game and saw 6 players contribute big with double
figures. Dunnell Webb and Nate Reed led the way, scoring 22 and 20 points respectively.

“The development of this team may take a long time because we’re so young – but every game we need
to learn from,” said Surf Head Coach Shaun Manning. “This game we were able to disrupt (the Titans)
and take them out of what they do well.”

The high spirits showed on Sunday as well when the #1 ranked team nationwide in the entire ABA came
to town,  The Los Angeles Slam boasting seven ex-NBA players on their squad. The Surf led the Slam
all through the first half, even outscoring them 47-38 in the 4th period.  However it wasn’t enough as the
                                               Slam prevailed 132-119.
“The Slam have a lot of experience on us…as long as we keep attacking –
whoever we play – we’ll get better,” added Manning.

Be sure to catch the young improving Surf at 8:30pm on December 17th at home versus the Riverside
Rainmakers.  Get tickets online today and be sure to also check out the exciting new “Surfettes” dance

Free throws seal game for Surf

November 26, 2011 Michael McAfee

.02 seconds. That's all that remained on the clock when Chris Evers of the visiting SoCal Swish went to the
free throw line with his team down two points. Make one, go to overtime. Make both and virtually guarantee
                                               victory.

Unfortunately for Evers the cards were all in the San Diego Surf's favor last Saturday night as the seven
footer missed both shots. The extremely tense ending to one of the most exciting games in the young 2011
ABA season saw the Surf (1-4) winning their first game of the year 104-103.

The turning point in the game came with 1:17 left in the third quarter as both teams teter-tottered back
and forth vying for the lead. Aaron Tinsley drove to the basket and put up a floater in the lane that barely
missed off the rim setting up the game changer. Dunnell Webb found it appropriate to showcase his vertical
skills and slammed home a thunderous put-back dunk that essentially let the SoCal Swish know "not today."
The Surf would play like they were in control for the rest of the game, taking the lead 81-79 and never
                                               looking back.

David Kinder led the way for the Surf scoring 17 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and adding a steal. Aaron
Tinsley came alive in the second half scoring 13 of his 15 points to clinch the win.

The young Surf have worked hard in practice since the first two weeks of the season, and it showed in the
victory. They only committed half of the amount of personal fouls they normally do with 17, and clearly
showed that conditioning was a factor in wearing the opposition down.

"We're very young - they put us up against the 2 best teams in the league in our first 2 weeks. Now we
finally have the opportunity to run and get bettter. Overall we have better attitudes, and that paired with
emotions will lead to a couple runs and wins...and most importantly - a win is win is a win" said Surf Head
                                               Coach Shaun Manning.

The Surf look to take their high flying emotions into the month of December where they host the Central
Valley Titans on the 10th at 7pm and the SoCal Swish on the 11th at 4pm, both at Hourglass Arena at
                                               Miramar College.
